I have no issue with CTPs / previews, I like them just as you do. But a Service Pack (at least in my mind) is a very different animal. Its supposed to mostly fix stuff that was broken more than introducing new features.peterbromberghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18173639411723574123noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5430866.post-56011194877050969452008-05-13T14:11:00.000-05:002008-05-13T14:11:00.000-05:00@Rick...I don't think it is pathetic at all. I think it's great that we get betas, futures, CTPs and whatever else to hack and bang away at before they're actually released.

People like to throw around the term "perpetual beta", and there are certainly companies and software teams that abuse the term "beta", but I don't consider .NET one of them. Look at how far the framework has come since it first came out. We've been blessed with a very steady and increasingly consistent cycle of releases, not to mention the exponentially increasing awesomeness of the features those releases include.

Honestly, what do you have to complain about?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5430866.post-89474863575973699472008-05-13T13:56:00.000-05:002008-05-13T13:56:00.000-05:00heh. We live in perpetual beta and Service Packs are more like point releases that do anything BUT service the existing tool (especially this one looking at the extensive new features added).

Maybe that's a good thing, but more and more it just feels like a tread mill that goes around and around the same track.

I'm holding out for release this time... let somebody else bleed for a change.Rick Strahlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15191427292081443626noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5430866.post-19001408252739773772008-05-13T12:04:00.000-05:002008-05-13T12:04:00.000-05:00@Kevin,Some poeple are able to install this and it...@Kevin,
Some poeple are able to install this and it works fine, so don't take my report as the Gospel. I have gone through this stuff enough times to know that if a BETA doesn't install for me so I can use it (along with whatever expected glitches there may be), then I am just going to wait. I'm not going to install it on a VM or some backup box and move all my development efforts over to that one just to be able to try out a beta.
